We
have been first many times.
In 1964, Betteroads
was the first to use Total Asphalt pavement section for roadways in the Caribbean. And in
1969, the company installed the biggest batch plant in the Eastern United States, with a
capacity of 14,000 pounds per batch.
In 1972, we introduce
electronic pavement and vibratory rollers to compact asphalt mixes in Puerto Rico. One
year later, we installed the first bag-house in the Caribbean in order to prevent air
pollution from plant emissions.
That same year,
Betteroads began operating a bag-house using No. 6 fuel oil for drying the aggregates and
installed temperature-controlled silos capable of storing and maintaining the temperature
of asphalt mixes for up to five days.
In 1975, we
installed the first drum mix plant and in 1977 developed in-house techniques for converting
batch plants to drum-mix facilities. Since then all company plants have been converted.
Petroleum Emulsion
Manufacturing Co. (PEMCO), which produces emulsions and cutbacks, was founded in 1980.
Since the creation of PEMCO, the company is able to supply its own needs, attend to the
needs of its clients and export its product to the rest of the Caribbean.
